Larissa & Alexander’s Ghillie Dhu Wedding Reception

In a place like Ghillie Dhu, there is so much space to accommodate a lot of people. If you remember my post about Larissa & Alexander’s wedding at the Edinburgh City Chambers, then you might also like their wedding reception at Ghillie Dhu, Edinburgh. They weren’t able to have all of their friends and family at the wedding ceremony, so they planned on having their reception a couple of months later. This is a brilliant solution if you have so many people on the guest list.

It was my first time shooting at the Ghillie Dhu, and it did not disappoint. The decor is darker than you would expect, but it made it feel cosy and warm. Unsurprisingly when you see it, it was a church. The ceilings are so high showing off the ornate features and massive chandeliers.

The ceremony part of their wedding was already taken care of so I was focusing on candid photography. We still managed to get along to the private gardens to get some photographs of them. The cherry blossoms were out which was a lovely bonus. Both Larissa and Alexander had different outfits from the ones they got married in. What a great idea; who doesn’t want the chance to wear two wedding outfits!?

In order to accommodate all the guests, there were three long tables at the back of the room, round tables were set up in the centre of the hall and then guests filled in the side tables which run down beside the windows. One thing that I love about this venue is that the band were able to set up on a stage, leaving a lot of space for dancing on the floor. It is such a small thing, but it really helps to make it feel grand.

Are you wondering what is going on while the best man gives his speech?

He gave the bride and groom a “Brautbecher”. This is a german tradition where the bride and groom drink from it at the same time to symbolize their union. Pretty cool, huh?
